Dr. Sidney Baker
Dr. Sidney Baker has worked as a career-educator for more than 37 years beginning as an elementary teacher in Birmingham, Alabama, and then holding various teaching and leadership roles in Georgia with Marietta City Schools, Cobb County Schools, and Atlanta Public Schools, including that of elementary principal for 19 years. His last assignment prior to retiring from public education was serving as Associate Superintendent of Elementary Schools in the Atlanta Public Schools.
In 2010, Dr. Baker received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Great Books Foundation for his school’s implementation of the Junior Great Books Program. His belief in the shared inquiry approach as well as the alignment with international education allows him to present workshops on how Junior Great Books can enhance an elementary school’s reading program.
Born in the small town of Eufaula, Alabama, Dr. Baker has realized the importance of encouraging students as well as adults to consider not only their local environments but international exposure as well.
Chaitra Chambers
Chaitra Chambers originally hails from Memphis, Tennessee, and is a dual degree graduate of The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC in Accounting and Spanish. Chaitra began her career as a foreign language teacher in Washington D.C. and currently operates RightQuick Solutions, an accounting firm specializing in servicing small- and medium-sized consulting businesses.
Her name is from Asian Indian culture and signifies “blossoming season,” which is a reflection of her personal philosophy of continuously growing and developing. One of Chaitra's proudest attributes is her comfort and adaptability in any environment. She contributes this to having been reared in a military family. Living in various areas of the United States also sparked Chaitra's passion for travel. While many see this as an opportunity to relax, Ms. Chambers sees it as an opportunity to experience the world as the best classroom for people of all ages to learn about one another. She shares this passion with her daughter, whom she homeschools and considers her favorite travel companion.
Like most people, Chaitra works on achieving balance in her life. If you are looking for her, check Google Earth or a hot yoga class.

Anneke Bates
Anneke has degrees in Mathematics and Education, and works in education technology, leading teams that build software for teachers, students, parents, and faculty. She started her career as a high school math teacher (and would absolutely do that job again). In her spare time, she works with foster children and families as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for DeKalb County.
She has lived in 10 different states and visited 30 countries and very much believes in the profound difference a change of perspective can make. She has also helped run the school book fair at three different schools, and is currently active in two book clubs. If you can't physically give yourself a different point of view, a book is your next best option.
Anneke joined the board of trustees after being a parent here at MIS for 8 years
